The 'real' size of translation market - Do we know?

Topics

About
Our expedition to the universe started from a brave guy who raised a question to the very basic knowledge for mankind - 'the earth is the center of the universe'. Later, another guy was influenced by this story and believed the world is not flat. And that guy found a 'new world'.

I would like to suggest a new expedition to 'our universe', the world of translation. Maybe document translation is just a small satellite that's spinning around a lot bigger body. The small stars we barely see may be 10 times bigger than the world we're living. Over the rainbow, there might be aliens, who has colonized 100 planets commuting on UFO's that's 100 times faster than our shiny supersonic jets.

Who knows one of us will find a new world hundreds of years later?

Closing the increasing gap between humans and technology

Topics
Do what you're best at (always), Linear vs. exponential (does it ever end), Futile investments (think twice or thrice), Division of labor (knowledge amongst peers), Look at the bigger picture (not your belly button), The tool which will "kill" you (yes I'm talking about MS Word), Steep or long learning curves (maybe we should stop talking about this all together), The Swiss knife syndrome (leave that to the Swiss, the rest of u are but mere humans), Use Excel to prove it (that should create some stir), Why is it only marketing (they solved the riddle ages ago), The solution (because everyone expects there to be one).

About
The entire presentation focuses on the migration from one technology to another. What it takes of effort, should people do it themselves or should it be outsourced? I am setting up parameters which hopefully will lift eyebrows and be a bit provocative. My belief today is that people today are a bit oblivious as to how technical communication should actually be handled.

Jointly developing your translation system – the JABA kick-off

Topics
-
About
Translation processes are becoming more complex, more individual and cloud-based. To succeed, companies must be able to adjust, integrate and extend used software as if it were their own. Yet most companies cannot afford to build this on their own.

The approach of translate5 is to solve this challenge in a collaborative manner and on base of Open Source: A community of companies fuels the development with resources and ideas.

Translate5 exists as a proofreading system since 2012, but the initiative to widen the community approach AND build a cloud-based translation system based on translate5, OpenTM2 and other systems kicked off at the JABA Partner Summit 2015, including the idea of a crowdfunding.

The presentation will show, how the crowdfunding went and what the current status of the system is and how it can be integrated, extended and used.

And lastly it will show, how actual development, support and roadmap creation are working and how this might further develop in the future – and discuss this with the audience.
